Farewell Volvo, farewell

We are officially a one-car family now.

We parted ways with the Volvo this afternoon. It served our family well.

While this break up is sad, there really was no other choice, given the extent of the repairs. A new gas tank was first on the list. A new transmission wasn't far behind. (if you haven't heard the story of how the gas tank dropped and was dragging, leaking gasoline WHILE Russell was driving it, please ask him to share that story. I really believe he must have 10 full-time guardian angels watching over him.)

So here is my Ode to the Volvo.

Like a valiant white steed
You carried my knight
To our wedding day.

Seats blanketed one summer
at various times
in sawdust, dirt, straw
You hauled tools and one sweaty man
Away in the morning
And brought him home again.

More recently, Cheerios christened your middle seat.

Vacations, grocery runs, holiday visits, late-night study sessions, date nights, DIY trips.

The heat worked really well--
Both in winter's cold or summer's swelter.

The time we crunched in the back
playing UNO with family and Chinese exchange students
after the Fourth of July fireworks.

And the time(s) we learned that God takes care of us.

And I'm really gonna miss my heated passenger seat.

  1. So many memories are categorized in my mind according to 'car eras.' We're on the third of our marriage (and my personal fourth).

    1. As inevitable as this was, I still hate change. It's good to keep the memories, though!
